Like father, like daughter

I got some pictures of my two favorite people while at work the other day.  There is no denying that Avery is a spitting image of her daddy.  I love getting pictures while away at work, and I am so glad that they can have special time together.  Avery loves to play on the floor with her daddy!  Maybe she will get the blonde curly hair her daddy had as a baby.

Deck Expanion Part 1

The new year brought new goals, new motivation and new home projects.  Trey and Pepaw have been working very hard with our recent deck expansion.  A few weeks ago, Trey and both Avery's grandfather's helped place the studs for our new deck.  In less than two weeks, we now have a beautiful deck where we can hang out and soon enjoy the beautiful NC weather.  Not right now as we have been hit with many rainy days.  We have to wait a month or two before we start staining and painting.  We hope to have it completed before the warm weather makes its way back.

Daddy hard at work.
 Almost done.
Ready for some staining in several weeks.  I love how the bench along the edge adds extra seating.
I am now in the process of getting new outdoor furniture and accessories to go with out new beautiful space.  I am hoping to use all of our current furniture and mix in a few key pieces.  I found 2 pillows that are going to go great with what we already have, as well as new some new items.
I can't wait to set up a baby pool for Avery, enjoy the warm sun and yummy meals on our new deck!  There are still many more projects on the list, but we are taking them one at a time!  Next up....more backyard projects and adding some fresh new light to our home!

Monkey Time

Avery got some fun sock monkey items from Christmas.  Sometimes she makes funny noises and sounds like a monkey.  She got some fun new hats, and the one below came with matching monkey bottoms.  She looked adorable with her monkey hat and tail.  Her other hat is a bit big, but she should be able to enjoy it soon in this chilly weather.  We are staying warm and busy so far in 2012.
Avery's got a monkey on her back.
This sweet girl loves her walks.  She likes to bring some friends with her as well.  Mommy is signing up for the Charlotte Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on October 27 & 28.  I will be walking a total of 39.3 miles over 2 days in honor of many wonderful women.  Good thing Avery likes her stroller cause the training will be starting soon.  More to come on this great cause.

New Seats

We finally got around to switching out Avery's car seats.  She is done with the infant carrier and has moved up to her "big girl" car seat.  Still facing backwards but she loves her new comfy car seat.
Happy girl on the way to church this morning.
Daddy also got a new chair this weekend.  This was my grandmother's chair and my mom offered it to us when we decided to add another chair to our family room.  Trey is so glad to finally have a comfy chair to recline and relax in while watching sports.  Thanks Grammy and thank you Uncle Ian for the moving help!

Watch out!

She's not crawling, but she is getting really close.  Her Pepaw and aunt have been trying to expedite the process by helping her get in prime position.  They even trick her with toys that are just out of her reach.  Mommy's not ready for this next step.
Avery gets stuck in this position then plops on the ground, and tries to inch her way to where she wants to go.  The girl has some power in those thunder thighs, but she can not seem to get her arms in motion.  She is so cute to watch.  I am secretly cheering her on, but know that I am going to regret encouraging this crawling stuff once she is on the move.  Life is about to take a change for the King family.

Teeth

Three days prior to Avery being 7 months old, she had her first tooth appear.  I was working my usual Tuesday shift and got a text from my dad letting me know that a tooth broke through.  He also told me that he needed to buy Avery a suit because "the first to find a tooth buys a suit."  This is an old saying I was not aware of, but I suggested it be a swimsuit.  I was excited for her first tooth, and that Avery will be getting a new swimsuit for this summer.  Her second tooth should be coming through any day now, as we can feel it right beneath her gums.  I wonder what she gets from the person who finds her second tooth?...ha ha!

Avery was fussy for a small portion of the day after her tooth appeared and a few times prior to it breaking through.  We are very fortunate that the tooth monster didn't have too much effect on our sweet girl.  I am ready with some over-the-counter remedies and some teething rings for the next round, but we hope the rest of her teeth are just as bearable.

7 MONTHS

Seven months old and so much fun!  Avery continues to grow and we love watching her learn new things everyday.  She is getting closer to crawling.  Right now she is like an inch worm across the carpet.  She loves to sit and play with her toys, but she also love to sit and look at her surroundings...especially enjoys watching Sadie.  This is such a fun age and Avery makes being a parent the so rewarding.  We love to see her beautiful smile, hear her lovable laughs, and can't get enough of her sweet hugs.
-Avery enjoys 3 meals a day with 3-4 bottles in between meals.  Loves her fruits the most.
-Taking a morning and afternoon nap for about 2 hours each.  Some days she skips a nap and takes 3-4 hours naps when we are out and about.  Sleeping 11 hours at night.
-Avery is very flexible and easy going.  She adapts well to our crazy schedule.
-Wearing a size 2 diaper, but is about to be bumped to a size 3 once we finish this box.
-So good at sitting, and loves to play with toys.  Starting to pull up on things.
-Loves to stand with assistance.
-Makes a tons of crazy noises.  Has the most adorable laugh that mommy and daddy could listen to all day long.
-Loves going on walks in her stroller.
-Puffs are her favorite snack, although she really enjoyed some bites of cake for mommy's birthday.
-Avery's hair has started to grow a lot and is coming in lighter.
-Wearing mostly 6 month and 6-12 month clothing.
-Still infatuated with Sadie and has fun going to watch her cousins play basketball.
-Pulls on everything in her crib and will be having her mattress lowered very soon!
-Avery is still the sweetest baby and she makes our life so much better.

Favorite things part 2

Avery has surpassed the half of a year mark.  We have out grown some great baby items and found new things that make life better easier.  Months ago, I posted about our favorite things and now I am posting the second addition.

1. Doorway jumper (aka Johnny Jump up).  We have the Sassy brand one and love it.  It stays in the doorway between the master bedroom and bathroom.  Thanks to this awesome and fun jumper, we can take showers and get ready with minimal interruptions.

2. Ocean Wonders Seahorse by Fisher Price.  This little creature is a nightlight and plays lullabies.  It helps to soothe Avery to sleep and the best part is that it is very portable and goes with us on overnight adventures.

3.  V Tech Toys.  Avery received these fun toys for Christmas.  Now that she is sitting, she is able to interact with these two toys.  The interactive part of the toy on the right detaches for easy use since she is not able to stand up.  They both have lights and audio features that keep our sweet baby entertained.  I love to watch her and daddy play on the floor with these toys.

4. Food storage.  I have done a good job of making most of Avery's food.  I plan on doing more batches of seasonal vegetables, fruits and some starches in the coming weeks.  I have used my steamer and food processor to make her food and then I place it into ice cube trays to make good proportions.  I recently found these trays with lids.  I will be using them in my next batch of foods.  This was they will not get frost bitten while they are in the freezing process before I place them in the appropriate freezer storage bags.

5.  Food pouches and attachable spoons.  I am a big fan of the baby food pouches for when we are on the go or out of town.  Avery mostly gets homemade baby food when we are at home, but it is not convenient for our "on-the-go lifestyle."  I started using the pouches a few months ago and then found these awesome spoon attachments.  The have hooked onto all pouch brands (even Target).
5.  Mum mums and Puffs.  Avery began eating Mum mums when she was less than 5 months old.  They are rice cakes that melt in their mouth.  While she still enjoys Mum mums, she has moved on to Puffs.  They are flavored cereal/rice treats.  They too melt in her mouth and are easy to eat.  She is better able to eat and digest them over Cheerios, but they will be her next treat soon.  I am able to get a few more things done and avoid some cranky situations with puffs.  She gets a few after most meals and is getting better at feeding herself.  Sadie, our dog, has also developed a love for puffs as well.

6. Booster Seat.  We love our Peg Prego highchair, but we can't live without our booster seat.  It is perfect for meals at home and our "on-the-go lifestyle."  It is compactable, easy to clean and adapts to the growing child.  Avery is still a little small for her highchair, so we have attached this booster seat to one of our bar stools with a towel underneath.  This awesome product goes with us on many trips and adventures.

 7. Sophie the Giraffe.  This is a favorite toy of most teething babies.  The material is perfect for those teething gums and easy for those previous hands to hold.  This is another product that both Avery and Sadie seem to enjoy.  Fortunately, Sadie has not destroyed Sophie like some of her dog toys.  This toys is a bit pricey, but has been worth they investment.  Avery also got "Peggy the Pig" for Christmas and she enjoys holding, chewing and playing with it was well.

8. NoseFrida the Snot Sucker.  I know you are thinking, "No Way," but you will do anything to make your child feel better.  I always thought they were funny when I would see them in the stores until Avery got a runny nose.  It works so much better than the bulb syringe.  Your child will be just as annoyed with this as the bulb, but they will be snot free for much longer.  I was surprised at how much snot came out.  You can hear a difference in the way your child breathes instantaneously.
NoseFrida the Snotsucker!

Avery got these two toys for Christmas.  She is already enjoying them, but we know that they will be getting more usage as she gets older and stronger.  She loves to ride in her wagon and it will be great for when she starts walking.  She stays busy sitting and playing with her activity cube.  it will not be long before she's pulling up on it and playing while standing.

We are still enjoying and frequently using our BOB Revolution Stroller.  I think it will remain on our Favorite things list for years to come.  Although we are looking for a new stroller to adapt to our growing child and busy life, we will still be using our BOB a lot!  The chair in Avery's nursery still remains a favorite and well worth the investment.
